hi all. i desperately need some advice on my new amp. i ought this Pioneer GMX424 4 Ch amp off a guy to drive a 12" sub. When he was testing it, it run perfectly, but when I got home it just doesn't work. I got 8 gauge wires for power and ground. The power indicator on the amp blinks but there's no sound. does anyone know anything about this? cheers

how did you run the amp to the sub, usually people dont reccomend running a 4channel amp for subs.

i bridged channel A. but the thing is even i cant get the best result from the running a 4 channel amp for a sub, at least the power should be on. i looked everywhere in the manual it doesnt say anything about flashing power indicator.

it may be due to an insufficient ground, or an overload as far as the ohm's go. have you tried to power it on without your sub attached?

no, i haven't tried that. and the positve lead is about 5 meters long. i really dont want to cut it until i got the amp sorted and decided where i'm going to put it. i've also got some 14 gauage wires, do u think i can use that to test it? cheers

it hasn't got any writing on the sub itself. the only reason i bought it was because it's in a really NICE enclosure with lights flashing. i think the sub itself is crap. i'm thinking of getting a new sub but at the moment i have to save for a while.

14 ga is fine for most any setup, but you should really try to power the amp on with no speakers wire attached, then you need to find out what the sub is because as if right now with that amp its not going to get even 70wrms.

i bought the sub and amp off the same guy and he used the same setup to test it. it was fine. but i'll take ur advice and try it without the sub and see what happens. do u think the blinking meant not overload?

ive personally never used a pioneer amp so im not sure, but i assume the blinking like is caused by either the subs impedence is too high for the amp, or you dont have a good enough ground so the power to the amp is not very strong.

im wondering, is this a new "field" for you because ive seen people buy "working" amps from pawn shops and other person's to return home and see the amps not working because the pawn shop or person changed something out to cause it no to work but caused another one of their items to work.

i hope not. this guy gave me a 30 day warranty. i didn't notice anything odd either. just thinking how the hell could this happen.

if its not past the 30 days i would take it back if the problems presist. if its an honorable company, "the customer is always right"
