i think ive got a bit of a problem with my sub... everytime it hits it sounds like rattling glass.... no its not the glass in my car b/c ive opened up the back and put my ear right near the sub and its def coming from the sub.... i was told in town that its a warped voice coil what ever that is... any help on this matter would be appreciated im just wondering if theres any way to tell wuts wrong with it....if there is anything

Chances are that your speaker is in the final stages of sss, smelly speaker syndrome. If it is not under warranty, then a new sub is in your future. Sorry to hear the news.

You may still have been clipping the signal going into the amp, thus even with your gains set "safe" they may have been amplifying a dirty signal. A sub will generally play a normally unnoticeable amount of distortion along with your music. If the noise is audable up front then there is a definite problem, but as you pointed out it is only from the cone itself. Maybe it's just your ears being spanked by excessive bass, hehe. It does sound to me like there is a definite issue with the sub. I would see if you can try another and see what the results are.

i talked to a guy at a local shop he said if i went by later in the week he could test it for me so imma try that i hope its nothing realy big otherwise im def switchin to a dif sub... this is my 2nd L7...how would i be able 2 tell if it was a warped voice coil?? and how would i have caused this?

I am not a Kicker dealer but here goes, I am not a Kicker dealer but here goes, I believe that the Kicker uses a Kapton former on this sub. Kapton is a high temperature Dupont plastic, plastic of any kind can warp when given excessive amount of heat that cannot be removed. Even aluminum can warp if the circumstances are extreme enough. Heat is the natural byproduct of producing power, be it is a sub or an amp. Heat is the number 1 enemy of a sub for if it cannot get rid of it, the dreaded sss makes it's presence felt. This is usually cause by the wrong gain setting, excessive bass boost, excessive level control or Epicenter, clipping of input signal to the amp and of course not allowing the sub to cool down after long hard use and finally flawed design (read as being used for intents beyond it's application).

If your box is out to lunch it will affect the power handling of the sub. Is it ported or sealed?
