My '91 Buick Regal had a Delco radio and seperate tape player. I remeoved the radio (I don't want to remove the tape player because it will leave a hole in my dash) and got a whole mess of wires. I am wondering if anyone knows which I match to which on a standard CD player (Sanyo). The wires I have in the car  are

  • 2 black
  • tan w/black stripe
  • 2 wellow
  • orange
  • brown w/white stripe
  • green

I also have three wires seperatealy wrapped that were attached to another part of the original radio which are:

  • gray
  • green
  • black

If anyone could tell me what each oh these wires does or how to find out it would be greatly appreciated.

I hope you have not cut the harness connector off!  Get a Metra 70-1858 wiring harness adapter.  It will make you life easier.

Is there any way to re-attach the harness?

Yes, if you match up wire colors and solder them back together with good electrical insulation.

I have a 93 buick regal, and I got an adapter that plugs into the tuner box under the glove box. I removed the ashtray and installed a kit that allowed a standard din radio to be installed, leaving the factory radio alone all together. It worked really slick, cause the factory radio was this little block, and the tape deck was not large enough to put a normal radio in. I just removed the radio and harness last week cause I am selling the car. If you are interested in buying the harness and kit (it is painted to match the dark blue factory color), send me a pm.

tekk, which piece of the radio were you saying you removed - the control panel or something else? The factory radio setup on '88-'92 Regals is the radio control panel in the dash, the tape deck underneath, and a control box in the passenger kick panel. The control box in the kick panel has the connector and antenna jack you need to connect an aftermarket radio to.

BTW, Metra also makes a kit(part #99-2020) for '88-'92 Regals which mounts an aftermarket DIN size radio in the factory tape deck location - the location is plenty big enough when you remove the trim piece around the tape deck.

You really dont have to do anything with the wires in you rdash by the radio.  The control box is behind the glove box.  That is where you will find the wires and antenna wire.  If you get the adapter, it will plug into the plugs that are connected to that control box.  You will only need to pull out the factory cd player to put in the aftermarket cd player to that location.  The radio can stay put or you can order a pocket for that spot.  you will need the install kits for this to make it easier on yourself.  I have all that stuff if needed although I will have to find it first.  I owned a "91" Regal myself, so I had to ask my co-workers at Best Buy on how to install a cd player into that car after I spent hours on it and nothing worked.  I know I kinda babbled during this post so if you have a question, let me know.
