Hi guys,

I'm getting my system installed this weekend and I need some advice. I have a civic coupe and I'm looking for a system with good SQ... I already have 2 Infinity Perfect 12.1s, a pair of Infinity Reference Series component speakers, and a Clarion APX 640.2. What do you reccomend that I do with the 6x9s? I have heard that they arent really all that important, should I remove them completely, leave the stock pioneer speakers hooked up or upgrade them to a pair of infinity 6x9's. And if I do buy a new pair should I run them off my deck or hook them up to an amp?

There alot of people that say you don't even need them.   I myself would suggest getting a better set of coaxials (infinity makes a pretty good set) and run the from an amp. They may sound ok being run off the your decks internal amp but they'll give a more well rounded sound if they were amped. So im MY opinion, get a good set of coaxials to match the components up front and then run them from an amp.

I installed a pair of Alpine Type S 6x9's in my brothers 99 civic, powered by the stock deck. I wasn't too sure how they were going to sound, but when I turned his radio on, I was impressed. A lot of midbass was produced by those speakers, and I couldn't help being mad that me and my other brother bought them for him for Christmas. The highs weren't the greatest, but I'm sure an amplifier could fix that. If you feel that you aren't getting enough midbass from your current setup, I would suggest upgrading the 6x9's.

If that Civic needs to have the rear deck removed to access the speakers:
Have them do a bottom-mount, in case you'd want to swap the speakers again later.

Just leave those stock 6x9s out of your system. I would listen to everything after it is installed and then decide if you need rear fill or not. If you really feel you're lacking some rear fill then go ahead and buy some infinity 6x9s (or 6.5s with an adaptor), but I would listen without them first.

custom suburb is right.....listen then decide....if you do change them out and you are going for SQ theni would got for round speakers with an adaptor. you will get a better sound out of round than out of oval

Not necessarily as better sound is in the ear of the beholder, and there are in fact some mighty fine sounding oval speakers. I personally like a little rear fill, I would put in a good coax speaker and limit the range of frequencies to it by using an amp with a crossover or caps. I really hope you are amplifing the front speakers.

forbidden...you are right....sound is all opinion...and don't get me wrong, there are some ovals out there i've dropped my jaw at. I just meant by technical aspects a round soundwave is stronger, more proportionate  and clearer than an oval one.

Thanks for the advice. I think for now I wont bother spending any money on rear speakers, but just save money for a small amp to run my component speakers.  Which brings me to my next question, what (if any) upgrades will I have to do to my electrical system to run 2 amps, being a civic I am aware its not the best car as far as electric issues are concerned I have a Clarion APX 640.2 and will probably buy a smaller clarion amp probably the APA 250.
