I pulled the door panel off my 98 Chevy Prizm to find rivets holding the stock door speakers in place.

I have a feeling I will have to drill them out, but once that is done, how will I mount the replacement speakers?

What a pain!

Metra makes a speaker mounting kit for this vehicle, 82-3412.  This might be what you need (I've never looked at one of these cars myself.)

Has anyone seen this before?

I have some speaker adapters, but unfortunately, there are no existing holes, or screws, to use.

I think I might have to go with self-tapping screws to drill directly into the door panel.

yeah you have to drill the rivits then use self tappers to attatch the new spacer to the door then mount the new speaker to the spacer.

Works like a charm... Pain in the a** though!

The wire supplied with the speakers kept breaking and pulling out from the crossover. I had to pull the woofers out three times. Very brittle stuff.

Along these lines, is it ok to have factory wire going to the crossover (which does not seem to be too small and brittle) and 16ga to the woofer?
The tweeter wire is staying intact, for the meantime. Though it looks like 18ga.
