What exaclty is involved with tuning a box? Is it the wood, the volume, the shape, ports, or just the speaker? Thanks

i'd like to know this too, cuz i dont feel like paying 300 bucks for my shop to build my ported box for me. If you pros out there could give a little advice or tips on how to tune this, you'd be saving me alotta money. thanks.

IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHAT TYPE OF BOX YOU WANT TO BUILD.  PORTED ENCLOSURES ARE TUNED MAINLY BY THE PORT, SEALED ENCLOSURE ARE TUNED BY AIRSPACE AND PLACEMENT. FOR A PORTED ENCLOSURE YOU NEED TO BUILD A BOX TO RECOMENDED AIRSPACE, THEN TUNE IT TO A CERTAIN FREQUENCY WITH THE PORT.  SEALED IS A LITTLE MORE DIFFICULT, I DON'T REALLY KNOW ALL OF THE TUNING ABILITIES OF SEALED BOXES, I JUST BUILD MINE TO THE RECOMENDED AIR SPACE FROM THE FACTORY AND IT SOUNDS FINE TO ME, BUT I KNOW THERE IS A WAY AND FOR SQ THEY TUNE BOXES TO THE "Q" OF .7 OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT
