I've got an Alpine Headunit, I don't remember which model - and its not really important anyway. Its one of the units with no internal amp, so a remote wire is mighty important as all the sound is amped externally.

The remote wire on the HU does not send a signal anymore, so none of my Amps turn on. I currently have the amps switch on with my ignition wire, but that means whenever I want to shut my stereo off for whatever reason I have to listen to noise from my running amps.

I tried the power antenna wire, but that one is also a dud. Everything else on the head unit works well.

Any ideas as to how I might be able to fix this wire, or make the amps power on/off with the deck again? Also what would cause the wire to go bad? Seems like an odd componenent to break if you ask me...

You might be trying to turn on too many assesories and hurt the deck. Mine stopped working on my Kenwood and I had to chuck it.

You can also use your red accy wire as a remote turn-on. If you are connecting too many devices, use a relay as described in the relay section

Some of them are fused inside the head unit or on the back.

Yeah that's a possibility, the wire is turning on 4 devices (3 amps and my EQ). I didn't think there was much of a "load" on the wire as its just a signal, not really powering anything - but I do have it doing a lot of stuff...

tsk, tsk, tsk.... should have used a relay BEFORE you blew your remote driver...take it into an Alpine repair center, get them to replace the blown remote driver, and then make sure to hook up a relay to the remote circuit BEFORE you hook it back up.....

Bah, that sounds like it would cost money... I'm just fine with my amps turning on with my ignition, if anything I'll install a hidden switch on the psuedo ignition remote wire to shut off the amps when I'm not using them.
