I looked ealier through the wiring diagrams and could not find what i needed, and i have searched EXTENSIVELY for a stereo wiring diagram for my 1978 Pontiac Firebird. If anyone could help me i would appreciate it.
That's an easy car. besides.....firebird or not....how hard can it be?
ground the HU to the firewall or trans tunnel, you need 12v+ continuous (batt).......this can be run directly from the....BATTERY + terminal (fused of course)
12V+ ACC, steering column if it's not already where the radio is.
The antenna and speakers...that's not to hard to get to the bottom of.
most of the wires are probably there, check for power and anything w/o power is probably the speakers. If it's a common ground system, you may need to run new speaker wires.
all the time you spent looking for the wiring codes, you could have wired it up and had it working...
if you still want the wires colors and codes get a haynes tear down manual for the car. They usually are great about putting in the wiring schematic with accurate wire colors.

But it's easier to take Flynntech's suggestion. You'll probably need to run new wires anyway.

mycustoms1980 thanks for the table for colors but its totally different than that...my firebird has a single speaker in the front, and my dad originally had to put the two in the back of it...so its kinda frigged up. im almost positive that i know the ground and ACC wires and kno what wires go to the speakers in the back so im pretty set, i just had to look at it harder and stuff. the only prob. im having is that the ACC is no powering up the stereo and i checked the fuses and the wire w/a multimeter and i think it was broke so it didnt show anything. eh w/e im working on it...thanks guys.
