Id do the pioneer. It puts out a cleaner signal over the preout section and, in my opinion, it has a better sounding on board amp. It also has a better eq section on the deck

i will be using a amp to power my speakers, so i don;t really need the internal amp, i just need soehitng that is going to make my amp run my sub the best

So like I said, The pioneer has a cleaner preout section so its gonna send a cleaner signal to your amp which is gonna make your amp sound better which is gonna make your speakers sound better. Last test results I saw in a magazine took the 8500 pioneer from last year and an alpine that was in the equivelent dollar range and the pioneer squashed the thing in catagories like output volltage, signal to noise ratio and THD. Those are what counts to me when I look for a deck. I have an alpine deck right now and I cant wait to ditch it because I think It sounds like crap. I put a pioneer deck in from my store and it sounded a whole lot better so that convinced me.

wow, i always thought the alpines were better, the premiere is 799.99 at my local store, and the alpine is like 629.99, although i can get deals on both of them, probably cost me 600 even for the alpine, and 800 even for the pioneer, so os it worth it for the extra 200 bucks?

Well lets put it this way. After hearing the difference you couldnt get me to buy a alpine deck ever again. Infact I am in the process of getting a 8600 myself. I am just waiting for it to come in.

the 8600 or the 860,. the 860 is the better one with 6.5 pre outs, the 8600 is the regular pioneer, the 860mp is the premiere?

Both are good cd players, however look past what they look like and the "specs". You will find that how they operate and sound will be entirely different. In a blind taste test, 9 out 10 prefer Canadian beer, wonder why? Look past the flashy light shows and flip over our down touch panel lcd multifunction microwave cell phone displays and take a good hard look at the cd player itself. Then compare the left over shell against a more refined cd player like a basic Denon, Nakamichi or Eclipse. The only way for you to understand is to listen to it in your vehicle. There are so mant times that I wish I could live in the US and trust the person on the other end of the computer, for if I could I would send them one of each cd player for them to find out for themsleves.

More and more people are finding out that a cd player is the most important part of the signal chain, it will drastically effect the capabilities of the system in general and as Ravendarat found out, a difference in sound. Throw specs out the window, they will not tell yo how a cdp layer will sound or perform.

Yes thats right. I am getting the 8600 because thats what I deal. I dont deal the premiere line and even though I could get it for personal use I demo my car to sell equipment so I am not gonna use a head unit that I dont sell but my competion does. The advantage to the 860 is the gold plated preouts, the upgrade preout voltage and a 2 year warrenty out of the box.

350, weill, im from canada, i have an ebay account, on ebay, there were quite a few on there, the 860 was only 329.99 american, if it thats cheap, i would rather pay more and get the 960, are any of those people good to buy form, is it worth the risk, if i buy it form the store, it gonna cost me 800 canadian, if i bought it off the net, it gonna cost me 500 canadian wioth shipping

Rob.... do you ever get the feeling sometimes that they just dont hear a word you say?????

the "old school" let your ears be the judge cant win a battle against "specs" and "PR advertising hype"

heck, some dealers nowadays advertise a "Room of Boom" or " House of Boom "... i remember when boom was a bad thing... when boom was what you tried to eliminate from a system... not pay extra for.......  it seems Fidelity and Car Audio have almost become mutually exclusive terms

anyway.... i assume if all southside was hoping for in a buying  a new head unit was that his "sh*t banged even louder" then he is more than happy with a refurb unit purchased on the worlds largest garage sale.....

I will b the first to admit that the main stream decks like pioneer, clarion, alpine, jvc, kenwood and sony are not gonna hold a candle comparred to decks like Nak Denon and Eclipse but none of those were an option that were presented. I personally love Nak decks, never heard a denon and liked eclipse decks but I have a feeling hat now that they are dealing with chain stores I have to think that their quality is gonna drop some. I was just saying that out of the options presented I thought the pioneer was better

I think what he meant was to take a cd you like and that sounds good down your local car audio shop and stick in everything they have hooked up. Remember you're the one who is going to be listening to the deck...not us. The recommendations you're getting are based on personal opinion. All these decks sound wonderful on paper. And the high numbers make them seem like the s#*t. But when it comes down to it....it's your ears who will make the final decision. People can recommend all the high end decks in the world to you and if a Pyle or a Boss Audio sounds the best to you..then that's what you should buy. But the 860 is a pretty good deck. In my opinion.

but there decks arn;t hooked up to my specific speakers, and it;s in a big showroom, which sounds totally different then my neon, nevemind, i will just by one of them

If you go to one shop and listen to a few decks in your price range using the same pair of speakers on test then being in a showroom doesnt matter. It wont sound like it will in your car but that doesnt matter because all decks are tested under the exact same variables. So whatever sounds best in the show room should sound best in your car. Now remember that if you go to different shops then you probally wont be able to test the decks on the same speakers as the last place and you will be in a different room so it wont matter. Also generally if you go to say 4 shops the stuff at the last shop usually sounds best because its the freshest thing in your mind. Pick one shop and go from there.

keep in mind warranty when buying...if you buy a product in canada you get warranty service in canada, not always so if you buy in michigan, etc.  unless you want to take it back to michigan to have it serviced....   the days of cross border international warranties on electronics are pretty much over....

just something to keep in the back of your mind

BTW, you can probably have any dealer ship the product to you and have it delivered to your door, so why not buy from someone like Rob that you say has been helpful to you in the past... isnt that the idea of dealers spending time to help out " newbies" in this forum... that possibly somehow people might appreciate what they've done???
