alright well im almost on the verge of going complete sq BUT im not there yet, so i want a sq/spl setup (guessing they call its SQL) i want it to be a nice competition setup for both sq and spl. like my sig says i want to run the 6 RE8's as yall may know but im not sure if these subs would be good bcuz i heard the bottom out really easy. bottom out = comes back and hits the inside componants of the sub im guessing right? well if it gives u an idea of what i want, i liksten to atmosphere, slug, mars, juice, phoeroh monch, dead prez, and things of that sort, so i want a lot of bass that can be given on demand but yet i nice all around sq setup also

This is a thread that I'm going to watch, because I'm curious if anyone has been consistently successful competing in both SQ and SPL with the same system.
------------- Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

Afew years ago, we built an spl machine for a customer, and he needed mids and highs to match. The car won the Canadian SPL chamionship that year. It also place 2nd at a SQ competition. It had 8-15" in sealed boxes, and enough mids tweetes to match. The probem with spl comp these days is the exterems that you must go through tobe compeditive. Single woofers in the 160's. You would have to make the box tunable, but you will still find it difficult to max spl and then have enough control for sq. Under the old rules, it was easier to build a good sounding system that could go both ways. With the quality of equipement avalible today you can certainly build a great sq system that if loud also.

If you have the amp and money you could do something like 4 10 or 12" eclipse aluminums or something.

OK here we go. Your best bet is gonna be making a box that can be changed from ported to sealed in a snap so you can go sealed for sq and ported for spl. I made a box for this that utilized square ports and then square plates with boxes attached to the back to fill up the internal space so you could run sealed ina smaller encloseure. Proper Tunning is essential if you are gonna use eights because if try to make them play 30 hz its gonna make them really pissy and they are probally gonna give out. If you wanna use those subs Id also look at adding a 12 and crossing it over low so it plays the really deep stuff. If you tune the box to like 60 hz or so those eights will do your spl competion just fine because they are gonna play 60hz fine and that is probally somewhere close to the resonating frequency of the car. You are gonna want to have a lot of power so you arent comming up short in the control department. Make sure you have a subsonic filter for the eights that can be engaged when they are ported and turned off when they are sealed. Run the 12 in a sealed box and throw enough power at it so its gonna keep up to the eights. If you are gonna run 6 eights make sure the 12 is of decent quality. As far as the front end goes If you wanna compete I am a big fan of the 6" 4" tweet combos where you put the 4"tweet in kick pods and the 6 in door pods. Angle of the speakers is absolutly essencial. If your imaginf sucks than you arent gonna win anything. Every competion I have been to has given extra point for external components like preamps and eq's so make sure you got something to show them. Even if its not nessasary its worth points. If you have more questions about the box I am talking about just tell me and I can go into more detail. I used a box like this in a customers car and am gonna do it in my wall in my car because I know it works well. Hope this helps some.

I would def go with eclipse aluminums. They have GREAT spl and very good sq. try to find a dealer that had them then go listen for yourself.
