ok... my friend has a peavy 700w max bass head for his bass.... it has this little light that turns red when the head starts to clip is therea ny way to wire this sort of thing to a regualr car amp?

In a car audio situation, where an amp makes power and sends it to a speaker, it's different than a bass guitar setup. " An amplifier does not have the ability to read what kind of power a speaker can handle."-from https://quadrasub.netfirms.com/index.htm#Clipping%20and%20Distortion  I know there are some expert audio guys on this forum who could tell you exactly why an audio amplifier could not have a clipping indicator and a bass guitar head can, but suffice it to say it won't work with an amp and speaker.

Some amps do have clipping indicators.  But if you want to see if your system is clipping add a small low power light bulb to it and as you turn up you system watch it light up.  This is sort of a way of seeing distortion when it start to take place.
