Factory CD player crapped out

Hello to All,

I have a 2000 Honda Prelude and the factory CD player has died on me. The radio and speakers still work fine but when I put a CD in I get the error code "E00", and the CD is ejected. I have searched the internet extensively for any information on this and cannot find anything except a few sites urging I send the unit in to them to fix. I don't want to waste the money doing this when I could probably replace it with an aftermarket unit for about the cost of repairing it. Does anyone have any ideas? I am planning on getting an aftermarket cd player in a while when I'm not broke, but that won't be anytime soon. The cd player in my car has been broken for several months and although it's not all bad, I have been listening to talk radio for too damn long and I need my music back =)

I would either, yes, get a new one....they're not too bad (like you said, about the same cost as fixing that one)...

but first I would bring it to the dealer (or where ever you got it, unless it was a private seller), and tell them.  maybe they'll help you out.

did you try a cd-cleaner cd?  hmm, might not want to waste money on that, but it's an idea.

Hmmm, I don't know...even after the warranty....I would still go back to the dealer and "bitch", for lack of a better term.  It's not like your driving a lot could mess up the cd-player.  Tires and other parts, maybe, but not the cd-player.

Start out calm and collected, but then let them know you're disappointed if they won't help you, and you never would have guessed that the cd player would have died in such a short period of time.  If they want money to look at it, then just leave...otherwise who knows, it might just work.

I'lll look for more info, though, and post if I find anything.

I also have a 2000 Prelude.  Recently the same problem you described happened to my cd player also.  At first I thought the cds I was playing were bad, i.e., scratched or whatever, but soon realized it was the cd player as it shows the error code and "skips" on all cds, even brand new ones.  I thought about getting the cd cleaner too, but won't since you said it didn't work.   Did you contact your dealer?  If so, were they able to help?
