this is a diagram of what i have now (97explorer sport)diagram is from https://carstereohelp.net/wireharness_Ford3.htm

I cut the factory harness and hooked up the new stereo according to this (just a basic stereo no amps)
the stereo powers up but no sound from speakers,
there seems to be a lot of conflicting info out there.
any help would be appreciated

If this is what your radio looks like it has a hidden amplifier behind the back passenger seat, behind the panel. Find out if you indeed have the amp. I'm positive that you do. Did you give the power amp enable a trigger from the remote on?

I don't know if it's got a power amp, I'll go check.
Idid not hook up any thing to the power amp enable
Not sure how to hook that up to a remote trigger

The power amp enable is a fnacy word for remote on. Hook the remote on wire from your your new cd player to this wire and I'll bet that you get sound.
