OK, i am aware that this is very basic and that i should know this but what exactly is the difference between 4 ohm and 2 ohm subs? From the Alpine specs, the SWR-1221D at 2ohms is exactly the same as the SWR-1241 at 4ohms. Is the sound any different?

The reason there are all the different impedence configurations on subs is because you need to arrive at a final ohm impedence at the amp that the amp can handle. Other than single voice coil or dual voice coil, 2 ohm or 4 ohm, the subs are the same. Post your intended system for help on selecting the right subs.
