i installed a head unit and sub set-up in a 1977 AMG DJ-5F postal jeep, and am constantly hearing a very low-level click noise from all of the speakers, subwoofers included, but its kind of .... asymetrical? it always clicks, but the volume and timing of them seem to have no pattern or predicatbility. it does it with the car running and not running, and neither way changes the timing or volume of the clicks
because it is a postal, there was no factory stereo wiring harness, so it is all run hard-line, w/ a fuse to the battery, and a line to the ignition switch for remote on. i have checked and double-checked the wires, and can find no problem, and have tried various batteries. is there something i can try? does anyone know anything about postal jeep electrical systems?
Grab a second battery and wire the cd player to that battery. DO NOT USE THE SUB OR SUB AMP. This is because you said the sound was there in all the speakers, so let's narrow down the problem. If the sound is still there with the cd player wired to the new battery, disconnect all the speaker wires and reconnect one at a time and listen to each speaker. If it is still there, chances are it is the cd player. Before you go and do this, find out if the sound is there only on cd or if it is there on am/fm as well. IF it is not there on am/fm then it is a problem with the laser pickup.

Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.
sound is there whether in CD player mode or am/fm
will try the other suggestion tomorrow when i'm back at the shop
