I bought 3 12 inch alpine type S and i was building a box for them. My PPI 2150 600Watt rms amp is running 2 of them and the third I need a amp for. While am building the box i wanna find out if each subs should have a different cabinet
the side ones will be the ones powered by the 600 and the middle is gonna be powered by something else.
What should I do and how big of an amp for the other sub.

Yes each sub must have it's own separate cabinet, no if's and's or but's. Find yourself one of these two types of amps. A 2 channel amp that will bridge to mono and give about the same amount of rms power as the other 2 subs will be getting or a mono sub amp that will run all 3 subs, this is the better choice.

yes he could get a mono block for the 1 sub. But it would never sound as good as 1 amp to run all 3 subs.

first off all they are three of the same subs of the same size so that means you dont have to get different cabinets for each, and since they are the subs they are you can wire them up into your current amp. sh*t you can wire them up into any amp,. here is a senerio if you take two of them and wire them up to one amp and do the other sub to another there will be a difference. the one will either be faster or slower making the bass sound echo e spelling? which means you will have two bass rythms so if your listening to a song with a lot of bass like a trance or house song where bass is frequent than you will here two bass tones meaing aon a four count one bass tone will hit at 3 and the other will hit at four and over and over simple cause now two amps are the same even if there from the same place. tell me what you got and i can go over with you some ways to wire them up
example dual coil 4 ohm subs, single coil 4 ohm subs,
dual coil 2 ohm subs or single coil 2 ohm subs.

mecp certification is not always needed. I have it and it has not helped me out at all. my experience out shines it.

you can not i repeat can not have the subs in the same "shared" enclosure if you have them wire to seperate channels or especially amps due to the fact that the subs will in effect destroy each other and cause cancelation and many other fun things to work with. if your example ment you can mix impedances on subs then it is incorrect. but all together your example just confused me sorry. ------------- Quad L Handyman services

yeah, i don't think iv said this yet. But you were completely wrong, don't take it to hard tho. Just sit back, and relax, and read up on what the pro's say. ------------- 2003 Chevy Avalanche,Eclipse CD7000,Morel Elate 5,Adire Extremis,Alpine PDX-4.150, 15" TC-3000, 2 Alpine PDX-1.1000, 470Amp HO Alt.

NO THEY CANNOT BE IN THE SAME CHAMBER. EACH SUB MUST BE IN IT"S OWN CHAMBER SO AS NOT TO INTERACT WITH THE OTHER SUBS. MECP not always needed but common sense definitely is. ------------- Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

i may not know to much but if there in the same chamber and 1 blows or something it can mess up all the other speakers. i had a lecture on that. Its never good to do 1 chamber for all subs they should have indiviual. IMO so its on you man.. you do what you want. you should read the pros and cons on both boxs. Call up the manu. of your speakers. They should be able to tell you what you *should* do. I called up mine 2 different companies got the dimineson and all its great. Give em a call it wont hurt.

Jay22, it's always best to get varied opinions, but look for a consensus among them.... if you ask 10 guys about this enclosure and 9 say do it this way and one says do it that way.... i suggest you triple think going with the advice of the odd man out... at least research it more... but 99 times out a 100 if you get a HUGE consensus among installers about how to do something, it's because they know what they are talking about.....

EXACTLY, BUILD A BOX WITH 3 SEPERATE CHAMBERS CUZ IF YOU PUT MORE THAN ONE SUB IN A BOX THAT SHARES COMMON AIRSPACE YOU WILL TEAR APART THE SUBS AS THEY WILL FIGHT EACH OTHER. I MADE THE MISTAKE OF DOING THIS WHEN I FIRST STARTED OUT BUT I GUARANTEE I LEARNED MY LESSON. I HAD 4 12'S ON 2 SMALL AMPS IN A SINGLE CHAMBERED BOX AND THEY BLEW APART IN LESS THAN 2 MONTHS. SEPERATE CHAMBERS IS THE WAY TO GO OR AN AMP THAT CAN PUSH ALL THREE SUBS THEN YOU COULD DO A SINGLE CHAMBERED BOX, BUT WITH 2 AMPS YOU NEED EVERYTHING SEPERATED.
