1992 Mercury Grand Marquis premium sound

I'm trying to put subwoofers in my 1992 mercury grand Marquis with premium sound. It already has an 8 inch sub in it, but i removed the sub and the amp to put a new amp with 2 12 inch subs. I already put an aftermarket head unit in, which took a while to figure out, but i just can't figure out how to put these subs in. The premium sound in my car is JBL, has an amp for the 8 in. sub and an amp for all of the speakers. Thanks

what do you mean by put the subs in? if you mean wiring the amp's signal wire (rca's) then you need to run those from the after market head unit preferably under carpet. if you are trying to fit the subs in the same location as the 8" was then can't help you there.....thats a lost cause. we kind of need more explanation in what your situation(question) is...

well, i was wondering if i could use the wires that hooked up the stock subwoofer amplifier to hook up my other amplifier to power different subs. and if i could, how would i do it

Run the aftermarket amp separately from the factory system.  Use an amp kit and wire from the battery.  Get the signal from left/right speaker wires with a good line output converter.

i hooked my head unit up to my car, however, when i did that i don't have a very large range of volume. Like when i turn it up to 17 it's pretty much peeked out. when i hooked my amp up to it, my subs just do like sine waves and they don't play any music, like they're clipping out.

Let's start over.  As I can understand this, you had a partially operating factory system which you have begun to repair.  You replaced a factory amp and a factory 8" woofer.  Am I on the right track?  You also replaced the head unit.  Why?

You have a separate amp to power a bigger subwoofer, while keeping the factory system.  Your last post says " when i hooked my amp up to it, ".  Did you hook up the sub amp to the factory system?  If so, How?

i'm sorry i've been so vague. so now i'll start over. I had a perfectly fine premium sound system that had an eight in. subwoofer that was powered with an amplifier. this came stock, however it didn't come with a cd player so i installed an aftermarket head unit. i wasn't happy with only the eight inch sub, so i removed the subwoofer along with the subwoofer amplifier. i did this because i had in mind that i would install an mtx amplifier with two 12 inch mtx subwoofers. when i did hook up the mtx amp with the mtx subwoofers with an amp kit, they clipped out because the gain was too high. so i was thinking that i could hook the mtx amp up to where the stock amp was. is that possible and how?

You already have the amp hooked up to the battery with the amp kit.  Grounded properly and a remote wire connected to a 12V switched power.  Leave them hooked up that way.  Leave the factory sub disconnected.  Was there a RCA out on the head unit and you ran the signal to the amp that way?

If so, you're running the factory system minus subwoofer from the head CD player.  The subs are powered by the sub amp.  You need to set the gains properly on that amp.  It is an input level control, and adjusts the amp's sensitivity to that of the head unit.
