I bought a new sony cdx-r3300. I removed all the stuff to explose the wires for the stereo and casette deck (in this car it is separate from the stereo itself). Thes is a black box I think it has the wires for the speakers but im not sure. I'm confused im not sure what to connect with what.

Follow the wires from the cassette deck up to a metal box in the center of the dash. That box is the radio control box. It will have a standard GM wiring plug going to it, as well as the antenna.

Do yourself a favor and get a wire harness for that car. It will save you some headaches

The standard GM wiring plug is on the left side or right side of the metall box? Also can I detach the metal box somehow? and when its installed I must leave the original radio detached?

Also when I connect the new stereo, do I connect into the radio control box.

Ex: stereo ----- wires ----- box

or do i connect the stereo to the wires and elimintae the box

stereo ---- wires

no, the CDM unit is the tuner/audio stage for the radio only... just unplug it

YES  actually just unplug the 21 pin connector that contains the power and speaker wiring  and then plug that into a Metra 70-1858 which you will have wired up to whatever you are putting in and away you go.... no muss, no fuss

BTW, you'll also need an antenna adapter

yeah i got it thanx, it was the blue wire on the right side of the box, thanks for the help. It was confusing cause the box had 3 different sets of wires, and only one is needed for the new stereo.
