It throws tons of bass inside the truck, but when you get out side it sounds like i got nothing in there. Then when i turn it up real loud all you hear is treble outside. got any sugestions?

why do you want to hear bass outside? Are you talking with the doors open you dont hear bass or with the windows up and the door shut. If you are talking about the latter I would kill to have your problem.

lol, to most your "problem" would be a blessing. There could be a number of reasons. Car could be insulated really really well. They sound good in your car, but arent that loud at all. (enough to be heard outside). Could be the way you have them facing. etc etc etc.

My friends 2003 S-10 hits 139.9 (cant seem to make it break 140) and you cant hear a peep outside when he is in the lanes. I can only wish that my little swift could do that. Granted I run 4 12s so its a little more unrealistic.

I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota extended cab that I'm customizing and I'm going to just have 1 JL Audio 12W7 sub in the Subzone sealed box with at least 750 watts RMS powering the sub from a PPI mono amp.  I'm going to end up using Dynamat Extreme on most of the inside of my truck.  Do you guys think I'll have a similar "problem" of not being able to hear bass outside the truck?  Or will the 12W7 pound so hard with all that power that my windows will explode and my truck will bounce up and down when I drive?  Keep in mind this will be in a small truck cab with all that Dynamat.  Thanks for the input.

I had the same problem (if you want to call it a problem) with my 94 b-4000 x cab with a single MTX 8000 10"@ 300 wats, hit like mad in the cab, but with the doors closed and the windows up, couldn't hear any thing outside the truck. When the windows were down or the doors open you could hear and feel the bass from 50 ft away, just good insulation i guess

You are honored not to be able to hear you music on the outside....   That will keep you safe from people wanting to steal your system and even tickets...

I wish I was that lucky..

Hey, you're driving a TRUCK, so if your intention is to impress the sidewalk dwellers or attract chickies with your pounding system, utilize the bed and install external speakers.  Otherwise, to quote a very good friend of mine, "Quit cher bichen."

I guess have a well insulated truck is a good thing. And no one knows what you got in there so they dont steal it.

I know where your coming from. I want people to hear me coming a block away, the farther away people can hear the bass, the better. I have a Cavalier, so its not much of a problem. But my friend has a Towncar, with his two Memphis 12s in the truck you cant hear a damn thing, inside or outside, so he currently has them residing in the backseat.  It sounds amazing inside, but still not much gets out unles you have all the windows down, and still its not amazing.  I would suggest installing your subs in the bed if you want some bass out side your truck.

One reason why a truck is usually quieter than a car is simple. The amount of metal in the vehicle. A car usually has much more surface area internally and externally that is exposed to the output of sound. These body panels are usually quite a bit larger as well. In the case of a vehicle with a trunk, quite often the pressure build up in the trunk will burp the trunk seal and allow that excess pressure to escape. A truck is built entirely different than a car, it is usually a much sturdier platform that does not resonate as much and has half as much surface area that is directly exposed to the ouput of your audio system, thus the resonation is far less due to the smaller amount of surface area and the greater strength in the panels. I have one customer as well that has 3 12" Concept EX12 subs in the back of his Xtracab Ranger. It is powered by a CCD2400 amplifier. The box is a coupled chamber dual slot loaded design and let me tell you, this thing has some serious output when you are on the inside, but outside she be nice and quiet. 3 layers of Brown Bread for sure but man can that truck spank some serious output.

My old pathfinder in which i sold today was silent, but deadly.   You didn't hear anything outside, but as soon as you rolled the window down a little bit, i could see peoples mirrors shaking beside me.

Got a 1997 pathfinder on the way, hehehehe system designing here we come!
