The test is difficult if not impossible for a nocive, but fairly straight forward for an experienced professional. Here's the details for you. Good luck! ------------- Support the12volt.com

Hmm, I know there are annual dues to be a member of CEA (usually the company you work for joins) but I don't believe the exam certification expires... or does it? Hey all you professional car audio installers, what's the scoop on this one? ------------- Support the12volt.com

Ketel22, having watched your posts over the past several months, I have seen that you do a lot of research in figuring possible solutions to questions, and have a good sense for troubleshooting. I would say that you are well on your way to becoming a good audio tech.

Then you better make that (high school) your top priority from here on out. Those little seemingly unimportant things you should learn there actually do stick and grow with you for the rest of your life. It's always years later when one realizes the significance of being a good student. ...believe me, I know from experience.

I was the same way in high school, 30 years ago. Slacked off so much with other interests I ended up not only retaking most of the junior classes to graduate, but had to make straight A's to end up with a 2.0 I've paid for that stupid rebelliousness ever since. Time for you to get on the ball at school. Agreed?

I got MECP certified a long time ago, and it never helped me any. The car audio jobs I got never required it. So make sure it is needed to get a job around there before you go to all that trouble, and spend the money. When I took it, I knew electronics and the technical knowledge of audio pretty well, but had never installed an alarm before. I still got an 89, even though 1/4 the test was on security IIRC. If you have security experience, that will help. Here's a link to a practice exam. Just click on the "Basic installer practice exam" link. https://www.ce.org/certifications/mecp/exam/register/selectexam.asp Steven Kephart Adire Audio -------------

There are no dues for installers, this is not a union. Also basic installer certification lasts for two years. The first class, specialist, and master are certified for 4 years. Personally I think it knowing how and why things work will make you a better installer, however just being certified doesn't mean a thing.
