Ok Heres my setup. I have a rockford fosgate 900 watt amp.(not really 900 watts I know) I have a stinger 1 farad digital cap. I was out today and the stereo acted fine. I then notice a very bad smell. I get home and open my back seat and notice a brown fluid around my cap. What the hell is this and why did it happen? I checked all of my wires and they are fine. Nothing has crossed , nothing is frayed or exposed. I took the cap out using gloves thinking the brown stuff is battery acid. Does stinger have a warranty for this? I sent them a email and havent recieved a response yet. If anyone could help me here I would greatly appreciate it.
Your cap has leaked and probably because it was defective. The fluid is not really dangerous but it can be toxic. In the old days, it was full of PCB's but today it's just an oil-based chemical soup. Be sure to clean it all up. Use kitty litter to soak up any that got onto your carpets.
Put the blown cap into a plastic sack and take it back where you bought it. Ask for a warranty replacement!
