i've been considering a system for my car, mitsubishi lancer evolution 8 and i am wondering what would be a good spl AND sq setup. i already have a rockford fosgate 501bd mono amp and a sony mp70 hu. my budget would be around 1500usd, i kinda like the hu i have now...although i've never used the 501bd. i want something that hits hard and clear, but not really dB drag material, but enough to blow out the doors if need be! :D (no not literaly...)

yes i am a n00b, ive been lurking on this forum off and on when i have time ,trying to find a good setup for my car, but with no avail... the stock speaker setup has some decent highs and mids, with little bass, enough to shake the windows a little... although thats not saying much. i would like some opinions on some subs ,maybe  6 and 1/2s for the rear and some component speakers up front.. reading user reviews dont do much for me, half of them dont even seem that they even know what they are talking about, neither do any of my friends... audiobahn sub this..... sony subs that. :V: i am really hoping i could do all of this with the original battery and no caps. also would like to remove the sub for track days... ANY help would truly be appreciated

thanks for your time

First off you have to decide if you want good sound (SQ) or if you want boom (SPL). Personally i love EVO's but if you want good sound and racing out of it think of something that sounds good in fiberglass. The Rockford amp you have will give you plenty of boom that you need when applied to a pair of subs. If i were you i would be looking to see if MTX has not already made a drop-in/pull-out box for your car. As far as caps they help maintain RMS while the battery catches up from notes. Though with a proper wiring to your amps and lack of running the A/C or anything else that runs of the charging system of your car you should be fine. Though i would recommend replace the factory battery with a Interstate Gel Cell.

i didnt see anything on MTX's web site for my car, in the "ThunderForm Vehicle-Specific Enclosures" section...

as for fiberglass, i was kinda hoping of just getting something that i could use in a sealed/bandpass/ported box, so that i could just remove it for track days. but fiberglass seems just too costly of an option....considering that is something i wouldnt have first hand knowledge of, i would have to have someone install/make it for me. too much from the quotes i have been getting.... :(

spl or sq?? i was hoping for BOTH... nothing for dB drags or anything, just a couple of subs perhaps. i heard that w7 is supposed to be good for that, but the seem to require a lot of power?? other considerations i guess would be maybe some PG titanium  subs? eclipse titanium or maybe some alpine type r...?

i wish i knew some real stereo shops here in orange county CA,  most i've seen sell nothing but cheap sh*t and rip you off recommendations.....

and i have been hearing about switching over to a gel batt, how important is that really? and if i went with a cap, would i still need to change the battery?

thank you ivant
