I just bought this car, and am afraid to take anything apart. I don't want to screw anything up. I was wondering if there were any things I could change on the system. Could I add an amp easily? If so, what kind? There are speakers in the dash, doors, and rear deck. Would I need some sort of 6 channel amp? I want to keep the factory head unit, just replace the speakers and maybe install an amp. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

what part of what you are hearing now are you unhappy with? poor SQ? lack of output?

I need more volume, mostly. I like to crank my tunes, but hate distortion. I just don't want to install an amp and then have noise introduced into the system. I also have to assume that just replacing the stock speakers would help, but I have heard that swapping them is not a very easy thing to do. Does anyone know if there are any speakers that can swap easily (screws line up, etc.) with the stock speakers? And would I see a noticable difference?

I have a new camry, but I don't have the JBL package. I'll give you what info i have.
I added an amplifier to the system to power the front and rear speakers. I left the factory head unit because it looks a lot better than any after market model (the dash has a goofy opening and requires a kit that looks funny with any other head unit).
The system sounds _much_ better after adding the amp. I can crank the music very loud and it stays very clear. The factory speakers provide a lot of bass and some very good highs.
I'm planning on replacing the front speakers this weekend, mainly because i blew one of them in the door when a wire shorted out, not because they sounded bad.
As for the specs on the camry, there are 2 speakers in the rear deck, 2 in the doors, and 2 tweeters with built in crossovers in the dash (i believe these are spliced off the door speakers).

I would look at the Infinity Reference, JBL GTO, or Alpine's Type S line of speakers. These are some excellent low priced lines of speakers. I would use some 6 x 9s in back. Not many speakers fit very easily in the front doors so I would try making some fiberglass kick pods (or have a shop do them for you) and stick some components in them. You will get better imaging up front in this location anyways. I would use an amp also, like a lower end Eclipse, JL, or Alpine amp for the front and rear speakers. Depending on what music you like you could use a sub(s) in your system also.

y not infinity kappa component in the front since it has tweets already 6x9 ref in back for fill.... and an eclipse amp???..... i just replaced my JBL speakers in my Exlporer and wow its a world of difference....granted im still off of the factory amp so i cant really tell how much more bass im getting... i know i was getting more out of the jbls.... but i know highs and mids are much more crisp and clear out of the kappa 5x7...
