Hi, my car cd receiver has worked ok for several years. A few weeks ago it started to have periods where it was working but no sound could be heard. The "silent periods" have been longer and longer, and right now there is no sound at all. Since four speakers are connected, I assume that it is not about speaker connections, nor about power since the unit is clearly on. Any ideas ?

How many years is "several?"  Sounds like it has simply reached its end of life and the amplifier outputss are dead.  Replacement time.

Sounds like you may have developed cold solder joints on the harness connector.  Not a difficult fix.  Take to repair shop, or if you can solder open up the deck, find the area whwere the harness plug connector to the board.   Do the connections look good.  If not resolder.
