I have a convertible with limited space. I can do 1 jl 12w0 at correct sealed vol.1.50cu ft,  or 2.07 cu ft with a slot port. I have been 2 many local shops and no one seems to agree. example, sealed firing to the back, port to the back, port firing down.....I understand that a slot port offers a 3db increase and better tuning, but do I lose that adv by not having the required vol. I have done some calc and my woofer can be sealed or ported, however, with a 51 it's a lot closer to the sealed box. Any suggestions on a conv?

I would tend toward ported in a conv.  It has more road noise and less sheet metal, so less cabin gain.  If you can fire both the cone and the port toward a cavity area, you should get the most cabin gain.  And go with the port type that your volume capacity will allow.

i personally like the sealed box facing backwards.  ive never really like ported boxes.  plus with a convertible youre probably limited on your space so a sealed enclosure would be easier to fit in there.

Well. it appears that I am in the same postion as before. I appreciate everyone's input, please let me know if you have additional ideas. As for know, I think that my options are to do a sealed 1.50 ft3 fireing down or 2.07 ft3 ported with filler. How much or what would be the equivilent will the filler make. example( if I have 2.07 ft3 and add filler will that be the same as a 2.25ft3 box)?

I suggest for a ported box to have actual air space per specs, and not rely on polyfil to make the difference.  A sealed box is more forgiving.  Can't tweak out another .2 ft3?  And my recommendation stands as I stated above for your car.  Adding fill after that is your choice, put it in and try it, take it out if you wish.
