Hello peoples--Welcome, me, the newbie. I have a 2004 Pacifica with the Infinity stereo system along with the DVD/surround sound option. I've recently added an aftermarket amp and 12" sub. The system sounds perfect until I turn on my air conditioning. The sub makes an awful buzzing sound. I've tried regrounding my amp along with shortening the ground lead (it's about 2.5 inches long now). I've tried an noise supressor on my RCA's (when connected I lose all sound from my sub, like the sub and amp are not hooked up at all). I tried to isolate all the wiring (power and speaker wiring). I've disconnected my antenna (still get the buzz). Everything is factory except the aftermarket amp and sub. I'm getting the reference signal for the amp from the speaker leads AFTER the factory amp- then into a LOC- then to the aftermarket amp. Am I using the wrong kind of noise suppressor for this set up? Or is my set up just wrong? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

if im thinkin correctly its alternator whine POSSIBLY... im not sure but i have it to....

its a possibility, but I dont think it would make that big of a difference. In a newer car, loaded like that, it should have a fairly high amp alternator. Have you tried re-routing your power wire? Is it anywhere near the ac compressor? ------------- 1990 Honda Civic HB:

Sounds like the leads to the LOC are picking up the power going to the rear AC blower. Relocate to left and right speaker wires before the factory amp, and use twisted pair cable to the LOC. The LOC should be of high quality, (I can recommend a couple if you need), and place the LOC close to the sub amp with a short set of RCA's to the amp. If this works, then re-adjust LOC input (if it is an adjustable kind), as well as the gain on the amp. ------------- Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

The noise is definitely A/C related. I get the noise no matter if I only turn on the front blower or rear A/C blower motors. The power wire is coming directly from the battery and runs down the driver side of the vehicle. As far as connecting the LOC before the amp has me baffled. According to the schematic, the radio only sends a signal for the amp split between the left speakers and the right speakers and doesn't distinguish between front and rear (I think it's because of the surround sound, it must be running thru a processor to split the signals to front/rr & left/right and center channel. I'd like to keep the signal coming off the rr speakers, that way when rr passengers are watching a movie w/ the headphones (the rr channels cut out and the front channels can play the radio/ cd etc.) I won't drown them with bass when i'm listening to a cd or whatever. I have a stinger LOC, but it doesn't have a gain in it. My patch cords a shielded (i forgot who thier made by, but they are pretty hefty). According to the feedback I've got, I think the noise may be picking up thru my power wire. I'll install a filter on it and see what hapens. Thanks for the help guys.

ive had a similar problem with my car..try swapping RCA's and see what happens

o.k. I got tired of riding around, listening to the AC buzz. I went into the shed and into my box of spare audio parts. I swapped the Stinger LOC for a PAC LOC and BOOM---no more AC buzz. I didn't touch anything else in the system. I should've known better to try using the Stinger LOC. The last install I did with a Stinger LOC gave me the same results, NOISE. I never had any problems with the PAC LOC's. Use PAC LOC's. The packaging is really cheesy looking and the parts aren't pretty like some other companies, but they work and work well. Thanks for the replies and help.
