2004 mercury marauder - factory alternator has been upgraded but the internal voltage regulator fries on a regular basis.

running:  2 optima batteries with 0 gauge wire, factory grounds upgraded

2 mtx sub amps (1,000 watts + each), mtx 4 ch. amp

                 2 mtx 12" 9500 subs

all connections are solid, there is no voltage difference at any of the ground points.  what can be done to prevent the voltage regulator from cooking every time the system is cranked up?

Make sure the alternator is large enough. Your drawing 166 amps just with the amps not to mention everything else that the alternator has to run.

The factory voltage regulator is not designed for the load of charging two batteries.  Take one out unless yu really need it (it is only useful for the sound system when the car is off) and go see your Lincoln-Mercury dealer to se if there is a heavy-duty voltage regulator available for the Marauder.  It is a high-performance Grand Marquis, so there may be HD parts for it.
