Ok, the big moment of truth. I have my hu, subs, and indash ready to go. I already replaced the door speakers on my explorer, but now it is time for the rest. However, the one thing I still need is a good way to attach the 4g power wire to the battery terminal. I can't quite find a way to do it, so if you know about the cheapest/easiest way to go about it I would appreciate some help. Thanks

have you though about buying a new terminal? if you have a side post you get a new side post and then a 4ga ring terminal if you have a top post you just buy a battery terminal that accepts up to 4ga.

I just wrapped it around the battery terminal...thats probably not the way you're supposed to do it...but it works.

ummm...i would go with a ring terminal...is your battery old...?side post or top...?

It works for a while maybe, until the battery acid eats the wire or the heat from the bad connection fries it. This kind of sloppiness and slapped-together approach is what gives all beginners a bad name. Dude, spend $5 on a proper battery terminal connector for petes sake. ------------- Support the12volt.com

and where could I get a terminal at?
what I was thinking about doing was just putting a normal ring terminal on the end of the wire and placing that between the post and the car wire. wouldn't that work and not be a poor connection?

That could work if you can find a ring terminal large enough, but it might not create a tight, solid connection since you'd have to rely on the battery clamp pressing down on the ring. One way to use a ring terminal is to put it on the bolt that clamps a battery terminal closed. The best and most professional way to go is to replace the battery clamp with one designed to add your new power wire, like one of THESE or THESE.. buy a cheap battery terminal and use a long noosed pliers and squeez it to get her then un screw the battery terminal and stick it through then tigten it ..%%%@#@

what about bolting a connector to the battery screw that holds the primary connector tight?

Please tell me you have a fuse on that 4 gauge wire within about a foot from the battery? If not, disconnect your wire, and don't hook it up back up until you add one.
Next you can get large ring terminals at a lot of REAL hardware stores (ie: not home depot..) for under a buck a piece. So get a ring terminal and clamp your 4 gauge wire into it. It will be hard to crimp I like to use some vicegrips but even then its tough. Once you secure the wire in the terminal take out the screw holding your factory battery clamp to the post, slip the ring terminal over the screw, and replace the screw.. Good luck,
