ok here's the thing. I have a Pionner 8400-MP. it is toast. the sliding face plate is broken, and I have bought a new deck. the deck I bought has a clock on it but it is a regular clock and not that nice to look at. the Pionner 8400 has a nice animated clock on the OEL screen that is a lot nicer. out of the 8400 most of the parts still work fine. I want to hook up the OEL screen from the 8400 as a stand alone screen. I have the service manual that I got in PDf form, and I attempted to just hook pwr into the + and the - PCB points. as I thought it had no effect. when the deck was working, for the OEL screen to come on, the face plate had to be hooked up, and the deck turned on ( as usual) and not I want to hook it up as a stand alone unit. has anyone tried this, or is anyone able to shed some light on this matter, I know it can be done, it just requires rigging something up to make it think that the face plate is hooked in and working.

If anyone can help me or point me in the right direction I would be forever in your debt.

here is a link to where I got the service manual in case you want to take a look for yourself.

I really can't answer your question, but my GUESS is you can't do what you want to do.  I'd be very surprised if the clock was actually located in the faceplate.  it is more likely located inside the deck along with all the other electronics.  The faceplate is simply the display.  Also, many faceplates do not use 12 volts, they are powered from a power supply inside the deck at 5 volts.  But in the specific instance of your deck, I really don't know if you could do what you describe, but my guess is NOT.

I'm gonna say it's possible, but not worth it. If you're doing all this for a clock then you need to buy a timex digital clock from target and velcro it to your dash. Going through the trouble of hookin' that thing up will be a pain. Do you know if the clock even works like that? Like Dyohn said the clock is probably in the deck itself, not in the face. Just find another way to tell whut time it is for now til you get another deck with a beautiful clock in it !!

Peace and I'm out this muh....you know.

I wasn't tryin' to make fun of you, it just seems a little much for a clock. and I'm out

it's not so much that I need another clock in the cr, it's just that it would have been cool, thats all. the deck I have has a perfectly good clock, it's just not as nice. and it probably is chipped righ on the screen as I looked up the id's of the chips on the OEL screen and one of them is for all the visualisations. but thanks for the help guys

regards, mark
