Hey All,

I got a sub box with 2 8" subs and 2 mid ranges from Wal-Mart. Yes I know they're cheap, so don't run my ass. I was just looking for something with a little more bass than my 6x9s.

First question is... I am running it off my factory radio and they don't have any more bass than my old factory 6x9s. But when I put my radio to all the way to the back and left, I can hear that sub pounding pretty hard (cuz 100% power is going to it), so my question is, when I buy a CD player, will the subs push out more bass?

Second question is... how do I mount (secure) my box? I don't really want to drill any holes in my car... but the box has a carpet coating, so I was thinking of buying 2 sided velcro and slapping it on the bottom?? Any ideas?

Thanks.

1.  No, it won't.  If you want more bass you will need an amplifier for that Walmart box.  How did you connect the sub to the factory radio?

2.  Velcro can work fine as long as the box is not too heavy and you have it up against something like the seat back to stop forward momentum when you break.

Thank you for the reply, DYohn.

I was thinking it would because a CD player pushes out (at least a little) more power than a factory radio. The box has 4 connections. 2 pos/neg for the left and 2 pos/neg for the right. You're supposed to unplug your factory speakers and plug them into the box, which is what I did. They aren't RCA connectors... they're the ones where you push up the lever and stick the bare wire through the hole and then let the lever back down.

I'll put the speakers against the back of the seats and velcro them down, thanks.

If the bass gets louder when you adjust the balance control to one side, then you have one input out of phase from the other.  Make sure you have + to + and - to -.  If you can't tell, simply swap ONE set of wires on the input side (the ones that connect to your radio) and see if it sounds better.

Cheers.

Well, the wires aren't color coded so I just hooked them up at random. But like I said, I am sure it's because all the power of the system is being directed to one speaker when I adjust the balance, so it gets all of the power and then when I spread it to all four, it's only getting 1/4 of the power.

I will try swapping the wires, however, tomorrow. Thank you again.

If you want more power from that box you will need to buy a amp for it.  You can probably get one at walmart as well.  But anything you buy from walmart is going to be extremly low quality. Instead, save you money for a good set of small subs, and a good small amp. Look around the net for good prices.
