Check it with a DMM.  It should be throwing 12v

There are no tricks.  Do u mean from a deck - use a volt meter   Or on the amplifier - connect +12v and ground then jump constant 12volts to turn on wire.  The amp power indicator should turn on(assuming it has one).  Make sure jumper to turn on is fuled with low amp fuse, and nothing else is connected to the amplifier for safety.  You should probably do this outside your car with a battery charger or other external source of power(Bench test)  Good luck!

Use a light tester or preferrably a DMM for testing this. Turn on your deck and this wire should register 12 volts.

Some of the amplifiers in Ford vehicles also show 5 volts on the turn on line if memory is correct, maybe a newer Rustang for that matter.

'tis true. Premium sound equipped fords and lincolns use 5 volt remote turn on and power antenna.
