I am looking for some up grades for current subs and ran across these subs. What do you guys think about the specs for them, in particular the 15". They have the same motor technology as the Adire's (XBL 2).

Param. 10" 12" 15" 18"

Fs 29.7 Hz 29.3 Hz 26.8 Hz 26.3 Hz

Qms 6.62 7.2 7.9 6.06

Qes 0.27 0.30 0.32 0.40

Qts 0.26 0.29 0.30 0.37

Vas 19.6 liters 44.8 liters 132 liters 230.1 liters

Re 3.6 Ohms

BL 22.8 22.1 22.1 22.1

Sd 310 cm2 514 cm2 804 cm2 1210 cm2

Xmax 25.85mm one way linear

Pmax 1000W RMS

SPL 84.6 dB 87.6 dB 91.0 dB 92.1 dB

That is confusing, its the 3rd set of numbers in each line. I couldn't figure out how to make stuff BOLD.

What brand is it?  I don't recognize those parameters.  Especially for anything using our motor.

I went back to my source and must have mis-read the discription of the subs. They may not have your motor tech. The web site is acoustic-visions.com and they sell Adire which is the reason I found the site in the first place. These other subs are called Blueprint Designs. I may have had something in my eye, but it looked like to me that the Blueprints have the same baskets as the Brahma's and Tumult with the Brahma's being the closer match.

There are a lot of drivers that use that basket.

But yes, that sub does look pretty good.  IIRC everyone who had them seemed to like them.  But I believe that company is no longer in business.  I think Kyle, the owner of that website, bought up those drivers at a good deal.

So would the be worth the money or should I just pony up the cash for something with a better name on them. I have been looking at the 12" Brahma's, IDMAX 12's, or the TDX 15"s.

A speaker, any speaker, is a motor.  It converts electrical energy to mechanical energy, which is the definition of an electric motor.  The morot structure in a loudspeaker refers to the magnetic, mechanical and electric components that make it work - the heart of the loudspeaker system and is the largest determining factor for any loudspeaker's performance.  Nice looking cones with killer logos and painted or chrome plated baskets with large magnets and cool puffy rubber surrounds don't mean jack if the motor structure is not built properly.

So motor meaning the manget.

So if the motor is built properly it would sound great.  i see.!!!

So in this thread when steven, and t.hill are talking about the motor, they are refering to the quality of the magnet?

I have no clue what you are saying.

I just wanted to know what they were refering to when they said "Motor" in sub woofers

Thanks!

Not the magnet, but the entire inner construction of the loudspeaker.  Everything that goes into moving the cone.  The magnet is one part of it, yes, but so is the voice coil, the former, the spider, the suspension pieces, the tinsel, etc.  And yes, transducer is a name for any device that converts energy from one type to another.  A motor is simply a name for a specialized transducer designed to convert electricity into mechanical energy.  A loudspeaker is a linear motor. TODAY'S LESSON  A generator goes the other way (in audio, a microphone or a phono cartridge is a generator.)

DYohn, in your opinion would you say that these subs are a waste of money or would they be alright. I'm always looking for a good deal, but I'm not looking to waste money. And if you would please check out my other thread that I started titled "amp turning itself down". I would really like to hear your input on my problem. Thanks in advance. Thank everybody for their responses.

I suppose they have Sony-designed motor assemblies.

A waste of money?  Well, that is a very relative question.  How much money are we talking about?  If they are indeed "based on" Adire's motor topology, then their design has a sound basis.  But "based on" can mean a lot.  Like in your previous post, a turbo Kia might use an engine "based on" a formula one design.  But I wouldn't want to go racing in one.  :)  The only way to tell if the speaker you describe is any good is to listen to one and test it.

Well after talking to Steven at Adire in this thread, he said that they have the same basket but not the same motor tech. The 15's run $270 shipped, but there isn't any way for me to hear them since he said that company is out of business. The Brahma's are $439 and backordered for the 15".
