Sup fellas, I'm in trying to upgrade the bass in my Regal, and am wondering if anyone has any suggetions for a amp and sub setup. I dont need the shake the ground every time I roll by, I just want some decent thump for my rap cds. I am also hoping to stay within $500. Any suggetions?

For the subs, i would look for 10" subs either way. This will offer you some nice, tight, punchy bass for your rap. The brands, i would recomment the Eclipse Titanium subs, Alpine Type R, or the JL W0/W3. These subs will be in the 100-150 dollor range or about there. The amp, well you could go with a profile calafornia series, or an MTX thunder series. These amps are nicely priced and arnt the big name brands that will cost more jsut becuase of the logo and name. I would also suggest that when you install these, put them in a properly sized sealed box.

should there be one or two subs? what diffrence does it make, since the power to both subs will be lower. does it just produce the same bass from two sources?

Try a JL Audio W3v2 12" sub in a ported box built to spec. For the amp use a Rockford Fosgate Punch P3001 and wire the sub for 2 ohms. This will leave you with money left to buy a wiring kit for your amp then.

I'll have to concur on custyburbs comment. Jl makes some good stuff IMO. Fosgate althgouh no experience with em seem to be some decent amps. Just do your research.

Thats funny that some one said MTX isnt a big name, since its the second biggest selling name in the states next to rockford.

Wow, that's like saying buy a Yugo or a Chevrolet.  MTX = one of the most reliable and stable brands available, with decent quality clean power and accurate specs.  Profile = well, I can't think of very many nice things to say about Profile.  Their cases look kind of nice.  But I could never recomend anyone waste their money on them if they are looking for sound...

lol i'm jut gunna toss this out.
JBL Power P1220DII 299$
HiFonics Warrior Merlin 160$
Not going sound the best sq wise, but it should give you plenty o thump in the trunk.
The amp is 1 ohm stable so wire the sub to 1 ohm and get the full 450 watts. should bump rather nice.
Oh ya you can get both off www.sounddomain.com

Since you are on a tight budget, I would say check out this Soundstream amp.  And these Kicker Comp Vr subs.  Grab a pair and wire them into 4 ohm.  With that amp they will slap and you still have room to grow.

I'll throw this one in the mix, because I like Dayton subs and the enclosure is high quality;  and I'm probably going to get one of these US Acoustics amps myself.  And you've got plenty of $ left over for wiring and sound deadening (u will need it!)

Ok, first of all my bad. When i was referring to the "not big name brands" i was referring to Profile, not MTX (which i am aware of their ranks) I personally never had a problem with the Profile amps. But they arnt the best. For a small budget, i see nothing wrong with their prices and performance. They are cheap amps and are cheap themeselves. I only recomended Profile because they are so cheap and can fit into the smallest budget.

You should definitely look at US Acoustics instead of Profile amps. Wayyyyyy better quality and they sound pretty good, especially for the price.

hey a couple years ago I hit 137.8 dB with 2 12" RF punch Z's running off a Crunch USA amp with 350W @ 4 ohms in sealed boxes in the trunk of a 94 regal. The whole system minus the head unit and wiring cost $400 at best buy with 4 year extended warrenty. And I bought bulk wiring for about $40. They made good on the warrenty 3 times, too! Just told them I didn't know what happened (had to see what they could really take.)

Why are those places any worse than any other online stores? I mean its the same product, regardlessly of were you buy it right? Where do you suggest buying from (in the same price range)?

Those places might have the best prices but you don't get any warranty, or tech support usually. Sure its ok if you know what your are doing and go to a good place (like thezeb.com or ikesound.com) but its usually best to buy from a local dealer or authorized on-line dealer.

That Soundstream amp is at a lot of sites...the pics show it two different ways.  Built differently for different parts of the world?  Or, was it redesigned but kept the same model number, I wonder?

I have seen 2 diff pics myself, however when it comes down to it if your gonna get one its going to look like this: posted_image

except the 2440 is really really long.

I have only dealt with millionbuy, sounddomain, and acaraudio and so far they have been good to me.  Millionbuy got this amp to my friend in 3 days. not bad.

I firmly believe that this setup is better than the us acoustics and profile stuff that was brought up in here.

It looks like a pretty good amp, and I have had good experience with MIllionbuy, too.  But I was impressed with the THD of the US Acoustics, being that it is a class D amp.  I like that 90% efficiency for running a subwoofer, it has only a 20 amp fuse.

I'll throw this one out again: JL W3v2 and the Rockford Fosgate Punch P3001, with a custom made ported box built to spec. This setup would pount and still have SQ and in my opinion be better then the Soundstream, Kicker combo and still be similarily priced.  Soundstream wans't what it used to be.... Also I agree with stevdart about the US amp being a good inexpensive choice, but a profile amp would not even come close to its performance.

I have a 1996 Buick regal with 2 12 inch audiobahn subs in a bandpass box with a 1600 watt audiobahn amp. It rattles a little bit from the outside but you can hear any of the ratteling from inside the car. I dont know what year you have but as for the 96 its well built and doesnt rattle to much.

Audiobahn...now THOSE arent what they used to be.
