whuts up yall? Got a quick question.

6-15" Kicker CompVRs         vs.          1-18" SoloX

Whut setup will win the battle? This is for spl of course qand we don't really need much sq. the CompVRs will get 750 watts rms each and the SoloX will get 4500 watts rms. Comps in 3 cu. ft. enclosures and the Solox in a 10 cu. ft. plus port. Let me know whut you think and we will build this bad boy in about a week or two!!!

Thanks for the input

Jeremy

That is a tough one. I can see the 18 being extremely loud in the right box, built correctly. Although 6 15s in ported boxes, built correctly, will be loud as hell as well. I would personally do the 15s just because it looks better then a big ass box for one speaker. It would come down to box design and available space.

I would do the 15's too, because that would be one pretty sight.  With that power you described, the 15's would win with the advantage of cone area.  Whatever you choose, please post pics of the install!

two votes for 6 15" CompVRs and 0 for the SoloX, interesting... It's going into an explorer so either way it will be loud, it has no choice!! I am down to do either setup, I just wanna hear from others to get a better idea of which one will be louder. So far so good, I am very happy with the comments and will listen to all of them for more info. Keep em coming and we will see whut system is next.

Thanks again

Oh yeah, forgot to ask something.... It is a question that is impossible to answer exact, but whut do you think those systems COULD hit (being realistic)?? I know that the SoloX is a loud monster but whut do you think?

The info has changed as far as power. I have 2 Viper D2500.1s that will be strapped. 5000 rms and 5400 dynamic. These amps should power either system pretty good.

Is this a driveable car, and what amperage will the alt make?

I got 2 300A alt's in right now, after ripping out the air conditioning. I will drive it, but not too much.

There's no replacement for displacement. As cool as the Solo X is I dont see this as much of a competion. I have personally experienced 2 solo X's in a Blazer off of 4000 watts RMS in 2 seperate 8 cubic foot boxes made into a wall. It was loud but I was expecting more. When you run 90" of subs compared to18" of subs the 90"s are gonna move more air. This is a no Brainer man, do the 15's, your gonna slam.

I'm thinkin the same thing as you guys. More cone area = more bass. I just don't know whut the Solo X can offer in a 10 cu. ft. enclosure(plus port). One sub with 5000+ watts has to be impressive. I kinda expect the 6 15s to slam, but I gotta imagine that 1 18" Solo X would be pretty impressive too with that power being fed to it. If you hear something this loud you would almost expect to see multiple subs, but you'd have to be impressed with just one sub behind all that noise, you know? I'm just sayin'..........yeah 6 15s..........anybody else got a comment or anything to say bout this???  Let me know whut you think.

I would take a stab at 142 db SPL.  Figuring like this:  start with 116 db with 1000 watts, you need 10 times that to gain 10 more db.  But it's 5 times that, so now that makes it 121 db.  Add 6 db for cone area of the subs, and 15 db for cabin gain.  For a total of 142.  I got the starting number from this document from Pioneer.  The cabin gain is just a guess.  And I don't know if I figured the extra db for the 15's correctly, but I believe they should have at least a 6 db advantage over the one 18".

Didn't some guy in a mercedes benz hit 168 with 1 sub??   Of course he completely gutted the interior and layed 4" of concrete, and a few layers of resin, , but still.... 1 sub could kill.

to answer draggirl, I got a pretty good hookup on kicker sh*t. to do 6 15" CompVRs will cost me $780 and the SoloX will run me $800. Not bad in my book. What do you got in your system??

Alpine guy, 168 with one sub is pretty impressive but not extremely uncommon. It really depends on if it's a legal hit, you know?

I got the power to drive most of the subs out there, one way or another. It's just that I get a good deal on Kicker so I'm gonna give it a try. I'm not sure on which one yet cause I haven't talked to anyone that reaaly knows these two subs and what they can really do.

My last system hit a 155db. I had 2 15" Type Rs and 2 12" Type Rs. All ported and lots of power, 1000 rms to each 12 and 1500 rms to each 15. Very loud but I know I can beat that score. If you want to see some pics of the old system and the score sheet let me know. Keep the questions and comments rollin'.

With the 15s if built the box is built right you should have no problem at all breaking 160. A friend of mine with 4 Alpine R 15s just broke 160db (160.4 to be exact).

stevdart? what is up with this 142 number?? i personally hit 142.3 db with 2 alpine type R 12s and an MRD-M500.

I think you should try the solo x. Like you said if you hear something huge you will think that they are running a lot of subs right? But what would they think if they look in the back and saw only 1 sub?? that is huge! I think it is almost more impressive to do more with less.

For my next system I am only putting in one Audiobahn AW1208T. I know a lot of people out there don't like audiobahn but i got a good deal. anyways I am running a planet audio PA-2500D into it. My goal is to break 150db in a daily driver, with only ONE 12 inch sub.

but whatever you choose to go with will be HUGE. When it is done post some pics.

I threw that number out there to generate feedback on the question, because I wanted to know, too.  See, it worked!   ;)

OK, here's the way I see this. If you wanna look impresive then use the solo X because its gonna put up impresive numbers for one sub, Real impresive. If you want the loudest solution then use the 6 15's. Its a no contest as to what will be louder. Now what you have to consider is that if you use one driver as opposed to 6 you are gonna fall in a completly different class in competion. So what class do you wanna compete in. If the comps are decided in square inches then you would probally go up against a lot of two woofer cars. If you use the 15's then you are almost assured to be in the highest class. Same goes if the competion goes by power. With your amps having legit ratings and not being cheater amps then you will most likly be in the top class. If the competion goes by groups, ie street, super street, etc then im guessing you would end up in the top end ultimate class being you have a completely revamped altenator system and Im guessing your sub box is gonna be higher then the bottom of your back windows. Just something else to take into consideration. Also on the last competion groups I talked about I am not sure on the rules for classing because we dont have those types of competions around here so check into it.

Sup yall?

Thanks to everyone who has helped with this. I am now more on the 6 CompVR side, but you never know. Has anyone ever heard the SoloX in a ported enclosure built to spec with 5000rms going into it??

Oh yeah, it's a holiday!! Happy Valentines day to all the girls out there, and dudes...lets drink!!

Thanks

To answer Alpine Guys question, yes a guy did hit 168.7 DBs in a '88 Benz. He was using one Orion HCCS15D sub, powerd by two Orion 2500D amps. The car was set up specifically for SPL however, and was barely drivable.

As far as the subs go, I would recommend a MMATS Juggernaut 15" or 18", just my two cents.

5000 rms going to a kicker.. are you trying to put a hole in your trunk when the voice coil explodes???? I wouldn't put a Legacy 100 watt amp to any kicker.. lol.. posted_image

Kicker has always made very good spl products, ask alma gates. As far as the other question the solo x's i heard had 4000 watts rms, thats a piece to them in a blazer and I wasnt overly impressed. It was loud but for what it was I thought it was gonna be way louder. Like I said before, the 15's are gonna out do the single 18 without an issue

Thanks to everyone who helped out. Now we gonna do something different. You tell me what you think are the subs out on the market for what I'm trying to do. I'm gonna do some homework on all these subs to find out who makes the best sub for me.
