Hi All,

I was wondering if there are specific wire harnesses for specific cars, or if they're all the same? Like... can I buy a 'standard' wire harness and use it in any car? Cuz I have a '90 Pontiac Sunbird SE and well... I've heard horror stories of installing a stereo in this car. Mostly due to the stupid stereo and cassette player being separate.

Thanks.

There is a specific harness for that car... in Metra terms it is 70/80-1858.  The easiest way to install a radio in that car is to set yourself up with an underdash kit.  Its not that tough, just not as easy as a standard kit.

What's an underdash kit, where can I get it, and what does it look like? Thanks.

But what do they look like? This 'underdash kit' sounds interesting. If I am thinking of the right thing... it's a complete replacement for that part of the console that provides a hole for the stereo and a cup holder where the tape used to be? I dunno, I saw a picture of that in someone's car once so...
