Ok. I have a friend who is running a 1 12 inch stroker, off a planet audio PA-2500D. he told me that he just broke 150 db with this set up in his jimmy.

Now I am the most competetive person in the world and I will not let him get away with being louder then I. The weird thing is we are both bought the same amp (planet audio PA-2500D) without knowing it. the only difference is I own an Audiobahn AW1208T.

I need to be able to be louder then him. I just want to know what little things i should do to make sure i get the most out of my system. Anything that will improve my spl will help.

Like you said, you have an Audiobahn...

If you want more SPL, get a better woofer with longer throw and better construction and put it into the correct ported enclosure.  Something like an Eclipse Aluminum, an Adire Brahma, a Planet Audio FU, etc.

At the moment changing the sub is not an option. I know that the Audiobahn is not the best choice for this. it will eventually get changed. I am looking into getting a planet audio FU but not right now. anyways I just want to know what little things i can do. Like my box i am going to use 1 inch mdf instead of 3/4. just things like that.

The best you can do is follow the "ultimate SPl bass box" guidelines provided by the manufacturer.  Then be flexible with placement in your vehicle to find the "sweet spot" position for the enclosure where it sounds the best.  1" MDF for the baffle board (where the woofer is mounted) is a good idea.  Be sure your enclosure is well braced and all seams sealed.  Be sure to mount the ports on the same side as the speaker.

i really doubt that he hit 150, ,  but do everything you can. . and then when it comes to comp time blow him away and make him look silly.  He prolly only hit 135 or so.

I hit 147.5 with 1 12" Kove Armageddon Z... So it's possibly to get up there in the big numbers with one sub..  Just throwing that in there posted_image

Dynamat (or something like it) might help.  The only thing you can really do is build the proper enclosure and go for it.

Yes you can clear 150 with a Stroker.  For years Strokers were the main stay of comp cars.  If you eant to beat him go to 15" Stroker.  That Chinese driver just won't keep up.  If your basic set up is not close then reinforecing the box, adding caps, stuff like that won't gain much.

I agree. Base is in the enclosure. Take your time and do your research. Also go around and find some box building programs and play with them. Also I believe the DB Drag record for 1 sub is around 169.

The meter used to measure his setup will make a difference as well.  On an Audio Control mic, it is very possible for him to hit a 150.  We had a single IDMax 12 do it.  But on the newer Termlab (IIRC) mic's, it is highly doubtful he broke 150.

If you don't care about how it sounds, then also check out Digital Designs subs.  They are designed to be high SPL one note wonders.

Hello Soccer_aholic,

Remember bigger is not always better.  There are many great competitors as well as newbies you will be amazed all you can learn from everyone.  Of course everyone has many suggestions some don't really get along with the comment.  But, all do agree that to build a great system you must use common sence.

1st - If money is the question then u should start by doing the system by yourself.

2nd - Dismantel the inside of your car, take the covers of the doors, take the seats out, stripe it naked.  Then cover the car with carpet padding about 1/8 inch thick (use the one that the persons use the mat in Yoga you will see what I mean) and use contact cement let it dry for 24 hrs it is the same but your not buying the NAME.  But if money is not an issue then buy b-quiet 50 sq.feet for $89 or dynamat for $249 peel off and place directly easy and simple.

3rd- Run all your cable accordinally left or right (+ / - and remote) one side.  And speaker cables the otherside, the RCA jacks should run thru the middle.

4th- Look at your trunk or hatchback that is the place where ti must be perfect.  The mat or b-quiet or dynamat should be placed double.  Put an extra battery especially because you are running over 1000 watts and a cap 1.0 minimum.

5th-  Make the box 1" thick and embrace it from the inside also place mat ot b-quiet or dynamat inside that will help alot.  That is all can not say much about what components should you place since are many out there.  I might like one brand name while you probably will not like it.

6th - Remember that the amp should have at least 105 db of THD it will cost you money. Yet, you will never be dissapointed in the investment you done.

Goodluck,

Keniwi

Hi,

Going back to Answer #6 I made a mistake the 105 dB should be "Signal to noise ratio" NOT (THD).
