Hi, I know they are available to purchase - but I would like to make a speaker adaptor so that I can install a 6.5 " coax speaker where the stock 4x6 is. The stock speaker hangs from a metal bracket but I would like a more solid surface for a tighter sound. Has anyone done this or perhaps know where I might find a template to do this?

On Probes I simply use the stock 4X6 mounting plate and mount a 6.5 or 6X8 behind it.  Plenty of room in there.

"behind it"? Sorry, I don't understand. Do you just  drill into the bracket itself and mount the speaker there? I guess I could do that - Though only two holes would probably line up. Did you get good sound like this?

Yeah - there is a lot of room - Which is really nice. I originally wanted to put these speakers in the front but they wouldn't clear the window. Man, you could put massive speakers in there.

Yes, but I either drill into the bracket or use the existing mounting screw holes to mount a custom baffle (piece of MDF) that my new speaker is mounted to.  That way you can get the proper alignment.  And it can sound great.  The front doors are a little tricky as you only have 2" of mounting depth, but if you use comps there is a nice mounting spot for the tweeter where the rear view mirror mounts.

Well, I had to head up to St. Louis today so I decided to go ahead and check out the junkyards. I found a set of 6.5" brackets for my car that work perfectly. They're great because they include a baffle and angle towards the speaker grill so you don't lose any sound from bouncing around behind the panel. It was a good day actually - I picked up a lot of stuff that I needed for my car.
