The new thing on the block is Class T digital amplifiers. Tripath. Supposed to be ultra efficient. It's used in my head unit, works great, but wondering how much power they draw (amperage): using these specs for example: Frequency Response 20 Hz – 20 kHz S/N Ratio >95dB THD: 0.02% all channels driven 250mv - 2.5 V Low level Input Voltage 500mV - 5V High Level Input Voltage 250W x 2 @ 4 Ohm Stereo 450W x 2 @ 2 Ohm Stereo 750W x 2 @ 1 Ohm Stereo 2000W x 1 @ 2 Ohm Mono
Dimensions: 2.5"H x 8.5”W x 15.25"L Those are the specs for a Class T amp. MA Audio. Model H2K-TP. Thanks. ------------- 1990 Honda Civic HB:

Tripath amps are still somewhat an unknown quantity, although some of the material I've read looks really promising.  I have a H2K-T amp on my workbench now and hope to have the testing done soon.  I'll at least let everyon know if the specs are real after I get the report. ------------- Support the12volt.com

My Arc amp uses a Tripath chip.  From what I understand, they are very similar to class D.  In other words, they are very efficient at lower power levels, but at full power efficiency drops down to A/B range.  They are also much more expensive to impliment. You say your head unit has a Tripath chip in it?  They are kinda large, and really not needed in head unit's, so that is surprising.  What head unit do you have? Preliminary test results on MA Audio H2K Class T amplifier: Maximum bridged output before clipping @ 12.5 volt input: 62.7 volts @ 2.5% THD 20-20KHz (measured into an 8-ohm reactive load)  This correcponds to 1965.6 watts into 2-ohms bridged.  Maximum output at <10% THD: 80.7 volts.  Damping factor 20-20KHz into 8-ohms reactive: 46.  DIN power @ 1KHz, 1%THD into 8-ohms reactive: 76.5 volts.  THD from 20-20KHz @ 28.3 volt output: 0.2%  S/N ratio (IHF A) 20-20KHz <0.2% THD: -88db.  Frequency response +/- 1db: 18 Hz to 35KHz.  There is significant measureable high frequency noise above 35kHz extending up to 150KHz.  Switching noise is present and audible at startup, measured at 46db.  IMD from 20-1KHz is <0.1%, 1KHz to 20Khz is 0.25% @ 28.3 volt output.  Overall power efficiency: 63%  Distortion numbers in general increase at higher frequencies much faster than at lower frequencies as power output increases. This looks like a decent amp for subs, but probably not for mains. ------------- Support the12volt.com

I used to sell the Orion Cobalt 250.1T and that thing was a sweet amp but super expensive at a retail of 799.99 for a 250 watt amp. Sounded awsome though and ran all day all night on my demo board with no problems.
