i have a 95'chevy lumina and i am trying to put a stereo system in which will use 1-4channel500watt amp,a 2channel 500watt amp, and a 2 channel 300 watt amp.a 60 watt eq/amp,and an am/fm cd-tape deck, 5&1/4 speakers in the doors, 6x9's on the rear deck, 8-in woofers on the rear deck, and 2-12 in subs in a ported bandpass box in the trunk.i also have a 40 channel cobra cb with a 300 watt linear, and a radio shack trunking scanner. i use this car to do a lot of traveling so that is why i have all of the "extra" equipment. my question is.......i need to know how to put a multple battery system to power the car with killing the alternator. i never have more than one peice of equipment on at a time(except with the stereo system) but i keep killing the alternator or draing the battery.i am trying to get info on multple battery systems and the custom stereo installations(distrbution blocks, fuse blocks, caps, etc).any info will be greatly appreciated.....thankx

Have you looked into getting a battery isolator ?

Use this in conjunction with your existing setup. Capacitors will only supplement your power .... not cure your alternator problems. A larger alternator and if you are going with multiple batteries, then an isolator is a very efficient way to go.

It sounds like you need a bigger alternator, not more batteries. If you add more batteries and an isolator, you won't kill your driving battery or your alternator, but it may not charge of if your alternator can't produce enough current. You may wnat to look into getting a high output alternator. It sounds like that would solve all of your problems.

Check out this link it will tell you everything you need to know. But I would not add the second battery until you upgrade your alternator.
