Does anyone have any experience with these.  I am looking at buying a new HU and I have narrowed it down to these 2 choices.

Any input is greatly appreciated

Evan

My personal bias is away from Pioneer, but I suggest you go to a shop and listen to them both with the same speakers and the same CD and purchase the one that sounds best to you.  If they sound the same to you, then go for best features or lowest price.

im not a pro at car audio or anything but ive went through a lot of different decks. ive had a pioneer p9300r before....nice looking deck but it doesnt work anymore. im planning on puchasing an alpine hu myself soon. from what ive heard alpine is by far better in quality...pioneer decks do look good but id rather have quality and sound over looks. thats just me though.

Looks make no difference to me. My reasons for a tough decision are:

The Pioneer has higher RCA voltages than the Alpine.  I am going to be running 3 amps in the vehicle, so the internal amp will never be used.  Having that higher voltage will be very nice.   The Pioneer also has a detachable face.

I recently had my stuff stolen, so the Phantom face is nice on the Alpine, by having the unit fold into itself every time I turn the vehicle off.  I also do understand that Alpine has a higher quality name that Pioneer.  I also really like the fact that the Alpine has no internal amp.

I have had both Pioneer and Alpine in teh past, and have really liked them both.  I have always though Pioneer sounded better with the EQ, but this Alpine has it too which is a first for me.  Finally, Alpine Media Xpander sucks, real bad, and it would be nice to have an easy sound enhancer for dull tracks that actually enhanced the sound.

You might want to look at Eclipse.

Which models?  (I want the Mp3 capability)

There are multiple models in the new Eclipse line that support mp3.  The Eclipse 5444 or the 8454 are the cream of the crop though.  If you are interested in the overall sound quality, head unit voltage, eq capability, and don't care about the flashy looks, I really can't think of a better receiver for the price than the 8454.

I looked around for the Eclipse 8454, but I cant find any dealers online....the best price I found was $599.  Does anyone know of any place for better prices?

Eclipse does not permit online dealing of their products. Find a local dealer.
