Guys , sounds kinda stu**d go put converter from 12V to 110V , cause anyway Xbox needs , -12 +12 and -5 +5 , so no one got a proper power supplier that replaces the one getting the 110V ??

Let me know . i guess i will start work on one if not available, i want the linux Xbox in car ...

-12 +12, -5 +5...  Not a PC.... MY A$$!!!

Not a pc? It is still a computer. Internally the 120AC gets converted to 12DC and 5DC. Same thing for just about any video game system. Now quit talking out your A$$ and learn something.

Shaman , a PC for sure ... and thx AUEX,

So ? Anyone wants to get practical ? If anyone can find some info on the Xbox power internals like which voltages it should really get let me know.
The best i can do is posting a complete scheme and parts required for a 12V to +-12 and +-5 converter as soon as i will be sure that is the requirement.
Or to make it easier maybe we should just look for a ready made solution.

Let me know .

Very true, most apliances you see with a large AC adapter are actually running off of DC voltages.

Since you have 12v to start with, you can make a DC/DC circuit to regulate a steady 12v output and a 5v output.

Don't these systems only have one hookup for the power?

It will work with 12v directly to the DC hookup, but it is safer to use regulated input, although newer cars have good voltage regulation, it should work ok if it's a 12v input.

Ive seen this done on a PS2 before, thought it was on this forum, but if it wasnt then I dont really remember where it was, I think maybe car domain.  The guy opened his ps2, and spliced into the 12vdc and 5vdc wires, he went out and bought a new plug, there was a certain name for this very popular type molex I think (really sorry Im being so vague) and hooked it up to the spliced wire.  This was the female side of the plug, he installed that on the side of the ps2 (xbox in your case) and ran a new wire with some sort of either voltage regulator or maybe a load that would keep it at a constant 12vdc and connected the male end of the (molex) plug on this wire, this way he retained the ps2's regular 110vac plug but could still plug it easily in to 12vdc, pm or email me if you need any info on all of this.

hmm ... not quite .. is not simply 12 and 5 volts , the problem is that -5 and -12 must be generated , meaning 24V and 10V as full range , still it does not mean that a regular 24V and 10V will do.

Please someone find out the Xbox internals power requirements.

With PSOne was simpler huh ...

Hmmmm ... forgot "few" important issues.

* Does it provide the required Amps?
* I dont want to wait for system boot each time i enter the car... so i think that a secondary smaller rechargable battery should be used while system in sleep mode and awaken by the door light switch or alarm disarm. (must make some calculations for power/time)
* THE STARTER ... can be a show stopper ... so again the secondary bat should keep power up during cranking while main power will be disconnected for few seconds.

Do i miss anything ?

OK, so you proved your point, but riddle me this. Why would you pay $55 for that, and then do all the work splicing, and wiring a new cable, when you can pay $60, and get a converter, connect 2 wires, and plug in your XBOX. Somehow you will need to create a CONSTANT 12+ supply to keep your XBOX running. Not to mention the 120V converter guarentees a constant  supply, without a constant 12V drain on the battery.

Simple reason , the noise and interference everyone gets when using the 110V converters. NO ?
