Both of these subs have the same rms wattage and have the same requirements for a ported box. The main diff is the cutout size and the max watts and the xmax. So im lookin at a subbox that is 1.5 cu ft which sub would you choose.

Personally, I like the sound of the Type S better.  The 2 subs you're looking at are quite similar in price, performance, and power handling.  I pick the Alpine because SQ is a little better than the CompVR.

Well im going more for bass then sq. Im gonna be putting a good set of 3 ways up front for the highs so mainly looking at getting good solid bass.

I'd pick the Alpine Type S subs. I just don't like the sound of the Kickers.

Aren't the type R's supposed to sound better than the Type S? Or are they louder only but not better in sQ?

If you want more bass, but less SQ, go with the kicker. If you want more SQ go with the type s.  The kickers will pound great, but they have a reputation for having horrible sq, so be warned.

I have a Type R 12 powered by a Fosgate Power450.  It has awesome bass and sounds musical.  I listen to everything from rap, alternative and hard-rock, to classic rock.  The R sounds equally good in all these applications.  It is perfectly balanced betwween SPL and SQ, definately one of the best subs I've owned!
