Make sure the power and ground wires arn't touching each other, and that the power wire isn't touching bare metal. It could also mean your amp's life is over. What is the model?

blown FETs in the power supply if the fuse blows as soon as you put it in... blown outputs if the fuse only blows when you remote the amp on.... both scenarios, you've got a problem in the amp..... ------------- Kevin Gerry

SAS - smelly amplifier syndrome. It sounds like blown outputs or a toasted power supply.

why are you pi**ing around with the ground wire??... the FIRST thing that should be hooked up is the ground wire....an active power supply will search for ground ANYWHERE it can find it.... and god forbid you've got your RCA cables plugged in.....you just roasted most of the ground foils in the HU's audio circuit....leave the ground hooked up and dont play with it.... i service half a dozen power amps every day... read the above posts if you want to try and narrow your problem down.... or do you just want 30 similar opinions? you remind me of all my customers that come in here and say " i've been to 5 or 6 different places and they all told me to come here " it's like they needed to hear it enough times ( or from enough different people ) that it finally sinks in....... ------------- Kevin Gerry

Ah1 You beat me to it. I was about to reply "How can it blow when you connect your ground wire unless you have the power conencted first which is a BIG mistake." Thanks! ------------- Support the12volt.com

This is because there is a dead short inside of the amplifier, it has nothing to do with your wiring. The amp needs to go to the old Pioneer home in the sky or if you prefer, a service shop. More than likely it is not worth fixing. We all have bad days, sounds like someone who was trying to help you was having one of those, don't mind it, Kevin is extremely helpful. I get that way sometimes as well, but I usually can take it out on my staff with a chain or on Monday nights at road hockey or Tuesday at volleyball. Mind you I nailed a hot chick really bad last week, bought her supper later on, things are looking up......

Does the fuse blow as soon as you plug it in or only when you remote the amp on?? blown FETs in the power supply if the fuse blows as soon as you put it in... blown outputs if the fuse only blows when you remote the amp on.... both scenarios, you've got a problem in the amp.... i wont speculate on whether it's worth fixing or not, but it's probably worth springing the diagnostic charge to have a qualified service shop at least look at it...... ------------- Kevin Gerry
