i have an 800 watt power akoustik amp that will not come do anything.  i have all the wires hooked up correctly but the power light on the amp will not come on.  when i first hooked the amp up and played it the amp was working for about 10 seconds and then it wouldnt play on some beats of the song and finally it wouldnt play at all.  could that have something to do with the subs or the amp?

First check fuses.  If burnt out, re-examine the way you have the subs wired.  For right now, with little to go on, it could have been too low an impedence load on the amp.  Post up more info on the system setup, and wiring used.

i have two 10" subs that i bought from a friend so i dont know the impedence load.  i used a 700-1400 watt amp wiring kit which includes a 4 gauge power wire with a 100 amp fuse that goes to a distributor block and connects to a 6 gauge power wire.  i have a 6 gauge ground wire, 12 gauge speaker wire and a high performance rca cable and a remote cable.  could the speakers cause the amp not to come on?  how big of a fuse should i use for an 800 watt amp.  there are two 30 amp fuses already in there but im not sure if they can use different sizes.

First, find out the type and model of the speakers, because impedence load is of primary importance.  Second, post model of the PA amp, so we know its rating limitations.  Then, other things:  fuses are always to be replaced with the same fuse rating.  "800 watt amp" at what impedence load?  At 4 ohms, at 2 ohms, what?  Did you have this amp running different speakers previously?  Or is it new, or bought used also?  Are the amp fuses blown?  Is the fuse in the power wire near the battery blown?

the amplifier is a power acoustik HMR800-2X and it has an impedence load of 2 ohms.  i bought it used but it was kind of new and i had it tested before i bought it and it played fine.  i don't know what brand the subs are but the label in the middle has KS on it. all fuses light up when i test them with a circuit tester and they are not blown.  if the speaker's impedence load is above or below the amps impedence load could that cause the amp to not work?  is a 2 ohm impedence load stronger than a 4 ohm impedence load? what's the difference?

The impedence load might have wrecked what was left in that amp.  Find out from the friend you bought the speakers from exactly what they are.  Meanwhile, you could test the amp by disconnecting the subs and then connecting a 4 ohm speaker first to one channel, then to the other, to see if the amp still works.
