Someone I know asked for help installing a new head unit
on their 04 Honda civic. The car has audio security but does not have a general car security system. Just keyless entry. I am aware that I need to know the head unit code if the OEM is to be reinstalled. Is there anything else I need to know? Does the keyless entry or any other of the car wiring connect to the audio security? If so how is this dealt with?

no... it's just a code protected radio... once power is removed from the unit you will need the code # to activate the unit again...thats all..... it has nothing at all to do with the KE in the car.... i remember that the KE on some of the older Civics ran thru the OEM radio and i'm not sure if that will be an issue or not.... but in cases like this the OEM radio is simply used as a data pathway which can easily be replicated in vehcile.....

Ok thanks. However in regard to the keyless entry:
your remark "is simply used as a data pathway which can easily be replicated" is a bit worrisome. Well i guess I will find out soon enough.
thanks again

on the 97 civic with factory keyless entry you had to keep the factory stereo connected in order for the keyless entry to still work. I would wire a reverse harness to the deck just for power and ground and tuck it behind the dash. On the '04 model it should be just a standard replacement.
