Howdy,
I'm trying to install a new HU into my '01 alero, how do I bypass the factory monsoon amp ?
Also where exactly is the ignition harness in this car, or another easily acessible ignition wire ?
Thanx
for the acc ignition wire go to your fuse box with a test light and touch fuses untill you find one that does not light up then turn the key and see if it comes on. if it does then you can tap the wire into that fuse and use it as a acc wire. to bypass the amp put the old head unit in and turn it on then go to the amp and use a volt meter on the remote wire to test how much power it uses to turn on. if it is 12 volts just use the blue remote wires on your head unit to turn it on if it is less then go to a stereo shop and ask them about plugs and adapters for it.

yup
You don't have to bypass your monsoon amp. All you have to do is connect the amp turn-on wire from the new HU.

Do it right the first time
you can find ign or acc in the fuse panel...you can continue to use the Monsoon amp but must have the factory radio relocated and then use it to keep the Monsoon amp active...the Metra T ( relocation ) harnesses dont provide this circuit, so you'll have be a little creative, i just bridge a connection from the amp turn on wire back into the radio harness and leave the relocated radio on all the time in the trunk.....
