i have jvc car audio receiver with a tape deck and a cd adaptor. audio from the radio works absolutely fine but the problem begins when i put a tape in the tape deck. there is no sound and all you hear is the low humming sound as if it is at the end or beginning of the tape. it rewinds, forwards and plays the tape just fine but no sound. i almost forgot to mention that there is an external amp. is it possible to fry something in the radio that would inhibit sound from the tape deck but still be able to hear the radio.

NO BUT IT'S POSSIBLE IF YOU USED THE POWER ANT CIRCUIT FOR REMOTE AND NOT THE amp remote turn on that you would get this problem.... many units are designed to bring the power antenna down when tape or disc is playing, which will of course remote off your amp.....

Kgerry hit it on the head, you need to connect the blue/white as your amp turn-on and not the blue wire
