Need help with installing Pioneer AVIC-N1 into a 2004 Volkswagen R32. I believe car has same wiring as any MKiV Golf/GTI.
Where do you connect the yellow wire for constant power? Can I connect directly to battery? What gauge cable did you use to extend it?
Where do you connect the red ignition wire?
Where do you connect the ORANGE / white illumination wire? Will any lighted instrument do?
How do you “ground” the parking brake? I hear you have to do this in order to have DVDs play while moving.
Which wire is the reverse gear signal input? Need this in order for navigation to work properly.
Thanks
Sorry folks, here's what I wanted to say:

I am not a VW guru by any means but you should be able to find constant and switched 12 volts up behind the factory head unit. If you have to run constant and switch we usually go to the ignition harness near the steering column. Everything that you need should be in the factory radio harness just get a metra quick harness and make sure you solder and tape all connections; as far as the video portion and e-brake you need to find the ground side of it for it to "work properly". Make sure you test all wires and ask any questions if you are not sure. And no you do not need the reverse gear signal input for the Navi to work. That is only if you want to hook up a reversing camera...which makes it easier for people to reverse and parallel park, so they can see how close they are to other parked cars or if there are any obstructions in their way. Hope that helps.
The reason that the reverse light is required is so that the NAV knows whether you are going forward or backwards.
It is also used to switch to camera mode in reverse if you bought it.
It needs to be hooked up to one of your reverse bulbs in the rear of your car.
I just installed the AVIC-N1 on my car and it wasn't hard. The most difficult part is finding a good spot to mount the brain.
Don't worry about the parking brake, just attach it to ground.
Have you figured out which one is the vehicle speed sensor wire? That might also be difficult
Good luck
