I have an amplifier that I need to run a remote turn on lead for.
I had the wire connected to the switched power for radio behind the dash, but it was causing the GEM module to blow fuses everytime it was turned on.
Then a mechanic I know wired the lead under the dash into the ignition's switched power. Worked for one day then the wire melted and cracked in 3 places and I thought there was going to be a fire.
I am all out of ideas on where to run this thing.

You could use the cigarette lighter as long as it is switched (I don't know if it is on a mustang) and you don't use the lighter, unless you hook it up through a relay. You may also have better luck using the ignition's wire wired through a relay. Check out some of the ideas on the top left of this page in the blue area under Relays in the Basics heading. It really simplifies planning out a relay setup for just about anything you'd want to do.

You can also catch the switch power wire in the radio harness.

Do it right the first time
Does anyone know how to wire this thing into the fuse box?
If this wire was hooked up to the switched power lead behind the radio and it was causing the GEM module to blow fuses and then when it was rewired to the ignition line at the steering column and the wire cracked and melted, my guess is that the wire has this wrong with it.
(1) it has no fuse where it is hooked into another power line (big no -no)
(2) it is shorting out between point a and point b - cauding the Gem module to blow fuses and the line to melt.
(3) what it is connected to at the amp is causing the problem.
