I have 3 Alpine type R 10" subs. I am building a new box, and want to have 2 inverted and 1 mounted normally. I am getting a 1000W mono amp through a friend to power them. how would I wire them up, just reversing the polarity on the inverted sub doesn't seem like it would do the trick, but I could be wrong. or will I need a seperate amp to run the inverted pair.

Are those type R's dual 2 ohm or dual 4 ohm? What make/model amp and its lowest impedance rating?

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.
they are 2 hom DVC and the lowest impedance rating on the amp is 2 ohm

Looking at diagram 1 above, the three woofers' voice coils are each connected in parallel, then the three woofers are connected together in series for a 3 ohm load on the amp. In your case, you want one normal mounted sub to be different than the two inverted subs. The difference will come in the series wiring. To begin with, connect all voice coils in parallel as shown. Then when you wire them together in series, first wire them the way the diagram shows. After that, change the wiring on the middle sub, the one that is mounted normally. You just change the series wiring shown in a curved line at the top of the diagram. Move the wire coming from sub 1 to the neg terminal on sub 2, and move the original wire from the sub 2 neg terminal over to the pos terminal on that same sub. The subs are still in series, but the middle sub now has reversed polarity.
Once the subs are connected, you will then reverse polarity at the amp. Use the 180 switch if your amp has one. If not, just reverse the wires at the amp speaker terminals. You will now be playing the one normal mounted sub in phase with the rest of the system, and the two inverted subs will be reverse polarity.
